Takeout Dim Sum in Chinatown

Good Mong Kok Bakery sells dim sum to go from a storefront at 1039 Stockton Street in San Francisco's Chinatown. There is no seating: you point to what you want in the steam trays, a few cooks behind the counter box it, and you take it with you.

What to Get

Har gow (clear shrimp dumplings), siu mai, pork and shrimp dumplings, pot stickers and chive and shrimp dumplings fill the trays. Pork buns come steamed, baked and pineapple-topped, and egg tarts, sesame balls, turnip cakes and lotus leaf rice round out the counter. Prices are lower than at sit-down dim sum restaurants, and portions are large.

Before You Go

Good Mong Kok is open every day from 7 AM to 6 PM. Lines form on weekends; early morning is quieter, and popular items can sell out by afternoon. Cash is simplest, since cards carry a 3% surcharge.
